We spent the last few weeks mapping and validating every dedicated recovery studio in the greater Chicago area. The result: 82 verified recovery centers across 15 modalities, from dedicated cold plunge studios in Lincoln Park to infrared sauna lounges in Hinsdale to float tanks in the western suburbs.
Why 82 and not the hundreds you might expect? Because we filtered hard. We excluded ketamine clinics, stretch-only franchises, single-modality IV-only shops, and medical-grade HBOT clinics that don't fit the wellness recovery model. What's left are genuine, multi-modality recovery studios where you can walk in and get real recovery work done.
The Numbers
Here's how the 82 validated recovery studios break down by modality (many studios offer multiple modalities):
| Modality | Studios |
|---|---|
| Infrared Sauna | 61 |
| Red Light Therapy | 37 |
| Cryotherapy | 27 |
| IV Therapy | 25 |
| Compression Therapy | 23 |
| Hyperbaric Oxygen | 20 |
| Contrast Therapy | 20 |
| Cold Plunge | 20 |
| NAD+ Therapy | 19 |
| Halotherapy | 19 |
| Massage | 17 |
| Float Therapy | 15 |
| Vitamin Shots | 14 |
A few things stand out immediately.
Why 82, Not Hundreds?
When we first scraped Google Maps for recovery-related terms, we found over 120 businesses tagged as recovery or wellness. But our validation filter cut 42 of them:
- Single-modality IV-only clinics — mobile IV services and standalone drip bars that don't offer broader recovery
- Ketamine clinics — psychiatric treatment centers, not wellness recovery
- Medical HBOT-only — wound care clinics with hyperbaric chambers but no other recovery services
- Stretch-only franchises — StretchLab and Stretch Zone are fitness, not recovery centers
- No services extracted — businesses with dead websites or no verifiable recovery offerings
What remains are 82 studios where recovery is the core business, not an afterthought.
Infrared Sauna Dominates
61 of the 82 validated studios offer infrared sauna — that's 74% of all recovery centers. This isn't surprising. Infrared saunas have lower startup costs than cryotherapy chambers or float tanks, and they appeal to a broad audience.
Red light therapy follows at 37 studios. These two modalities often show up together — a studio with an infrared sauna frequently also offers red light therapy panels.
Cold Plunge Has Caught Up
20 validated studios now offer dedicated cold plunge, matching contrast therapy. The Huberman effect is real — cold water immersion has gone from niche to must-have at multi-modality studios. Many of these pair cold plunge with infrared sauna for contrast circuits.

New Modalities on the Map
We've expanded tracking to 15 modalities, adding NAD+ therapy (19 studios), halotherapy/salt therapy (19), massage (17), vitamin shots (14), and stretch therapy. These were always offered at recovery studios but weren't being tracked separately until now.
What's Next
Every studio now has pricing comparison tables on each modality page, so you can compare drop-in rates, memberships, and intro offers side by side. We're also expanding into Los Angeles and San Diego next.
